ACE-IT / Apprenticeship Training
(Accelerated
Credit Enrolment in Industry Training)
Career Preparation
ACE-IT is a program which integrates classroom theory
with practical experience in the workplace. It provides an opportunity for
Grade 11 and 12 students to explore a career in Hairdressing. This program
gives the students an opportunity to gain valuable hands on experience
before starting work on a full-time basis. As a result, students will be
better able to make sound and realistic decisions about their career
choice.
Students who qualify for this program will be able to
apprentice in a Salon on a part time basis earning a salary. Students also
attend school to complete graduation requirements and continue with core
subjects. With careful planning, the student will be able to accrue the
necessary hours to qualify for the Industry Training Authority exam
(ITA). In addition for every 120 hours of work, the student is
credited for 4 course credits to a maximum of 16 credits, which will be
used towards graduation. An additional benefit of this program is that if
the student completes 480 hours of work, he/she may qualify for a thousand
dollar scholarship.
